Welcome to WED & Day 1 check-in post
Hello and welcome! I'm
sakanawords and I'm hosting the Write Every Day Challenge (WED) for September 2024. I've copied most of this welcome post directly from
zwei_hexen.
What is the Write Every Day challenge?
Write Every Day is just what its name says: We challenge each other to write every, single day. Our goal is to encourage one another and provide the accountability and/or motivation that some of us find very useful in keeping the words flowing.
Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome! We're an open-minded, nonjudgmental group of people who enjoy writing.
What do I have to do?
I'll post each day to start a running tally of participants. All you need to do is drop by the comments to let us know how you're doing. Please know that you are never obligated to check in. Also, if you'd like to comment on someone else's comment but aren't checking in for yourself, that's perfectly fine too. We're really easygoing 'round here, and conversation is absolutely encouraged.
Is there a word limit or quota?
Nope. Write as little as an "alibi" sentence (just what it sounds like--a sentence you write to say you've written, an alibi for the day, as it were) or as much as you'd like. All word counts are welcome!
Is there any restriction on the kind of writing I can do?
Absolutely not! Fanfiction, original fiction, screenplays, blog posts, meta, academic writing, morning pages, editing, letter-writing, nonsense poems: If you can write it, it counts!
Do I have to participate all the time?
No way! You can come and go at your pleasure.
How do I check in for a different day?
Please comment on the most recent post and let me know which day(s) you're checking in for.
New to WED? Got any questions?
Please don't hesitate to contact me at
sakanawords via DM or comment here. I'm happy to help!
I am in the North America Pacific timezone (UTC-8) and my "day one" may be your "day two." Feel free to indicate in your comments which day(s) you're checking in for!

I'm off work with doctor's orders to take it easy for the second half of the month, so I'm hoping it's a chance to get back into the habit.

My main goal for this month is to finish my Austen Exchange assignment, which is coming along quite well so far; other than that, I mean to start planning my Yuletide sign-up. I'm relocating in a little over a week so I'm trying not to be too ambitious!
ETA: Day 1: Several paragraphs on the Austen Exchange fic!!

Yay, several paragraphs is great progress!

On Day 1, I added 180 words to a short story that began its life a few short days ago as a handful of alibi paragraphs. This is the third time a new story has interrupted another one I'm trying to finish. Clearly, they're colluding to keep me from ever completing a story again. Lol!

Sept 1: 300 words. And realizing that there's more story to this than I thought there was going to be.

I've spent most of August travelling and am in-between projects now, as I more or less only was travel blogging during the trip and was/am sick since our return, so I have yet to get back into my previous writing rythm and also find the inspiration again, particularly for writing fic / creatively.
Day 1: 130 words nonfic.
