day 11: worked on some ideas for one of the new stories so I don't forget them. edited a couple of scenes on the main story. I'm now removing more than I'm writing, but I think it's all to the good, trying to bring the whole thing into focus.

January 11: another stab at the same scene. Fourth try? Fifth? I've lost count. Did manage to get further without an unexpected conversational digression than any of the others so that's good. Can't be sure of the wordcount because I was constantly grabbing bits from two or three other versions of the scene, which I am also choosing to take as a good sign.
